About Primošten

Primošten is one of the most popular tourist resorts in Dalmatia and ranks among the most picturesque small towns on the Adriatic coast. It is located only 27 km south of Šibenik and about 33 km north of the town of Trogir, so halfway between these 2 UNESCO cities. The old part of town lies on a small island with a number of typical narrow streets which was in the Middle Ages connected to the mainland by a bridge. The parish church of St. George dominates Primosten and is located on top of the peninsula inside old town. It was built in the 15th century and was thoroughly reconstructed in 1760. All tourists and guests who climb here have beautiful panoramic view of the open Adriatic sea and distant islands. The town has preserved its Mediterranean atmosphere and all the characteristics of a medieval Dalmatian fishing village like narrow streets and old stone houses in the old town on the peninsula.
Economy is based on farming, viticulture, olive growing, fishing and tourism. Most residents of Primosten offers quality and affordable accommodation in apartments and rooms inside their private homes. The town is famous for its huge and beautiful vineyards. Photo of Primosten vineyards is hanging in the center of the UN in New York and represents the hard work of generations of Primosten farmers. On the second bigger peninsula called Raduča, north of the old city, is located Hotel Zora with a sports complex and a dense pine forest which is ideal for families with small children where they can find lot of shade during hot summer days.

Primošten town of beaches

Around Raduča peninsula is almost 2 km of beautiful pebbles beach with crystal clear Adriatic sea. It is ideal for families, because it is never too crowded and you can rent deck chairs and sun umbrellas and spend relaxing day on the beach. The largest beach in Primosten called Velika Raduča and neighbouring beach, Mala Raduča, has been named one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Croatia. Here you have numerous possibilities for sport and recreation: tennis, table tennis, bowling, beach volleyball, sailing and diving. Apart from Raduča peninsula there are couple of more small beaches in old town and beautiful beach Porat in front of closed hotel Marina Lučica with beautiful view to old town. Only 300 meters from beach Raduča Velika towards the camp is also nice small beach with beach bar Bau bar. Primošten has nickname town of beaches because it is surrounded with many kilometers of mainly pebbles beaches with clean and clear Adriatic sea.

In 2007. Primosten won a gold medal and reward Golden Flower of Europe for the urban and horticultural decoration of settlement.

Gastronomy and events in Primošten

Gastronomy offer is large and you can choose from almost 50 restaurants and taverns where you can find Dalmatian specialties or famous Primosten red wine Babic. During the summer months and tourist season in Primosten are held variety of events such as the Customs of Primosten, fishing night and folklore evenings and most of them is held on main square inside the old town.
Excursions from Primosten are regularly organized to National park Krka and Kornati, Primosten Wine Trail (sightseeing tour through the villages of Primosten Burnji), visits to Krapanj (Museum of Sponge Collecting) and Zlarin (so-called coral tours)...

Climate in Primošten

In Primošten like almost in all of Dalmatia dominates typical Mediterranean climate with dry, sunny and hot summers, mild and rainy winters. Thanks to the plenty of sunshine and heat here dominate typical evergreen plants; holm oak, Aleppo pine, Dalmatian black pine and from agricultural crops; olives, figs, and vineyards.

Primosten has stable, dry, sunny and beautiful weather during the summer (June, July, August and September). The average temperature of air in the summer in Primosten is 26 to 30 °C, with more than 2700 hours of sunshine a year. Temperature of Adriatic sea is from 22 to 25 °C during all summer until October.
Quality and purity of the sea is a characteristic of the entire Dalmatian coast, especially Primošten area due to the relatively low population density, open sea and underdevelopment of the industry.
